Chiva - A rural icon for self determination

Chiva on the Trampolin de la Muerte

The Chiva is a colombian emblem of rural communities in Colombia. It is the chassis of a truck converted into a bus to transport anything from people to chickens to goods. Every bus has its own motifs, colours and constructions but the principle stays the same. A roof made of wooden arches to hold the loads which are but on the roof. Benches going from side to side. Often they are not fitted with windows.
