An abandoned Tambu in Valle Sibundoy

Encounter with an abandonned tambo near Santiao, Putumayo

When left with maintenance, the leafs woven roof derade quicly

In order to maintain such a construction, the tulpa (a fire) need to be made everyday. The smoke cures the leaves.

Unfortunatelly, this knowlede is getting lost.We can see here that those leaves haven't been exposed the the tulpa's smoke (as it turn them black)

Also, the sourrounded trees need to cut, so that their seed don't end up on the roof.

We can see with this picture the new construction replacing the old tambo.

Here, only 'new' materials are being used. This result in a similar outside shape but very different joint and constructionn techniques.
